“By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail” is a commonly cited phrase, and many people do indeed believe planning to be an essential part of success. However, despite this commonly held belief goal setting and planning are often overlooked by small businesses and individuals. Here at Fix Forward we wish to change that. Last month we hosted a goal setting and planning workshop with our contractors. At this workshop we encouraged them to dream big and more importantly helped them put in place the plans to achieve those dreams.
We covered various aspects of goal setting and planning, helping our contractors come up with personalised well-rounded and thorough plans for 2021. We believe that a detailed action plan is one of the key ingredients of success, and echo Franklin’s sentiment that planning is essential.
Setting SMART goals.
SMART goals are:
SMART goal setting is a helpful way to help our contractors build the careers and businesses they want. By setting objectives and creating a clear roadmap for how they will reach their intended target, they can decide how to apply their time and resources to make progress. Without clearly defined goals, it can be difficult to determine how to get a certain job or other milestones you want to achieve.

Here’s what our contractors had to say about the workshop:
“What we are doing here – goal setting – is something we never did or very little of and I think it is a really great idea to set goals and standards to improve the business.” – Mohammad (construction and security electronics)
“This training is opening my mind to a whole lot of things that I haven’t really been thinking of in terms of my business. Being the business owner, I was more technically involved, and I didn’t break things down to a point like we are doing now and it is helping me.” Marlon (Electrician)
“This training is helping me go back and say okay you made promises to yourself so how far have you gone and where are you still on track. It is taking me back in terms of re-evaluating how far I’ve come and What I still need to do.” – Pumla (Interior decorator)
We have loved watching our contractors grow and flourish under our training and mentoring programs and cherish the community we are empowering. When you book a Fix Forward contractor you are supporting contractors who have dared to dream big and who are working hard to achieve those goals.
