our impact

Empowering South Africa's informal economy for lasting change

.

Why we exist

One in every three South Africans of working age is currently unemployed.

A staggering

18.2m

South Africans live in poverty

Less than

$2

a day to sustain themselves

Economy growing just over

1%

each year

According to ILO

85%

of Sub-Saharan Africa’s workforce is in the informal economy.

This is where the opportunities to reduce poverty and inequality lie. Our goal is to strengthen the informal economy, creating opportunities for people to move out of poverty and to help others do the same.

At this point, every person that is able to have a sustainable job in South Africa ensures that approximately another 5 to 7 people don’t go hungry.

Tackling the SDGs

Our work directly contributes to realising the following UN Sustainable Development Goals

Our Entrepreneur Development Programme

There are three core elements to our programme

Training

Using a blend of in-person as well as online (live sessions and self-paced e-learning) we provide tailored, industry-specific content aimed at strengthening and equipping contractors with critical business skills.

Mentoring

Contractors meet with a business mentor each month to get advice and support as they go about applying the skills they have learnt or strengthened.

Life coaching

Contractors meet with a life coach on a monthly basis where they are supported to find solutions to challenges they are facing in their personal and professional lives.
