“I am really glad that I came on board with Fix Forward because I don’t think that I would have gone this distance alone” says Shamiel”
Over thirty years of experience
Meet Shamiel, one of our Golden contractors, who has been a part of the Fix Forward family for four years. He brings with him over thirty years of experience, and a range of expertise.
“I liked carpentry since I was a young boy, and I did my trade test to become a carpenter over thirty years ago” says Shamiel. Shamiel has been involved in a variety of businesses and ventures in those thirty years. Some of which include owning his own workshop where he made furniture and running workshops for a NGO. “I did youth skills training for an NGO, Sikho Sonke. I would handle the carpentry section of it – we did some schooling and onsite training” says Shamiel.
Expanding beyond carpentry
Whilst Shamiel initially started out in carpentry, he soon realised that offering more services under one roof made it easier for his clients. Today he offers everything from carpentry to tiling, plumbing and electrical work – including building alterations.
“I started to offer more because the clients were always asking me if I had a tiler or an electrician or a plasterer because of my experience in the building industry. They preferred dealing with one person and so I became responsible for those people on site. I decided I might as well take the responsibility myself with the whole project as clients find it much easier” says Shamiel, who now offers his clients a variety of services under one roof.
Fix Forward and growth
“I am really glad that I came on board with Fix Forward because I don’t think that I would have gone this distance alone. I would have kept taking one small job at a time because I would have been scared without the skills that they taught me. Because of the Fix Forward training I got, like how to handle clients and dealing with the business part of it, it made me confident to actually take on the projects on a bigger level” says Shamiel.
Shamiel has grown tremendously and we have loved watching his confidence with clients improve. He now handles up to four projects simultaneously. He has been joined by his son, Ibrahim, who Shamiel says makes the ideal business partner and is someone he can trust.
